ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Community Updates
Institute leadership continues to communicate important information for cadets, their families, faculty & staff, and the ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ community at-large:
- Did you know? The ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Summer Transition Program (STP) is designed to enhance the academic and physical fitness of incoming cadets before they officially matriculate in August. If you’ve committed to joining ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ, this program is for you! Registration links will be emailed to appointed students who have completed both their Reservation & Medical Requirements starting April 15 when the application opens.
- Road Closure: Maiden Lane (next to the ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Police Department) will be closed to accommodate construction activities April 21-27 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. All traffic will be temporarily diverted to the Engineering Drive entrance across from Cameron Hall for access to the South Institute Hill Parking lot and Washington & Lee University office parking.
- The ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Board of Visitors will meet May 1 – 3, 2025, at various times according to the schedule posted on the ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ website. ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ business will be discussed by the board members in attendance. The meeting is open to the public. More details, including schedule and agenda, are available on the BOV upcoming meetings page.

ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Ethics Team Wins Military Case Competition for Third Time
The ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Ethics Team won first place at the Military Ethics Case Competition held April 12 at the United States Naval Academy Stockdale Center for Ethical Leadership in Annapolis, Maryland. This is the third time the team has been victorious at the prestigious competition.
ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Brings Home Another Record from War Conflict Scenario Competition in Italy
A team of ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ cadets earned top honors at the prestigious Law of Armed Conflict Competition in Sanremo, Italy, winning four gold medals and one silver — more than any other academy.
ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ BOV Elects New President
The ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Board of Visitors elected Thomas E. “Teddy” Gottwald ’83 as board president April 16 to fulfill the remaining term of previous president John Adams ’96, who resigned last week. Gottwald will serve as president until June 30.
ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Recognizes Two Retiring Staff Members
A recognition ceremony was held April 11 in Memorial Hall, where two employees were acknowledged for their combined 73 years of loyal service to the Institute.
